　When cultured pearl started to export, a competition against natural pearl was very difficult in the European market, because it was suspected of imitation. But once French scientist announced the opinion that a cultured pearl was intrinsically same as natural pearl, cultured pearl became very popular in the world in a short time. From this moment, Japan became the center of pearl trade, so "MOMME" is still used for weight standard of international pearl trade up to the present.
